Much-loved headteacher retires after 30 years in profession

A school bade an emotional farewell on the last day of term today to a teacher who has worked there for 25 years - 10 of them as head.

Trish Farnell has been based at Allanson Street Primary School in St Helens since 1995, taking over as head teacher in 2010.

In that time, she has taught thousands of children and has seen some of them return as parents themselves.

With the school at only 25% capacity due to Covid-19, today's final day was a little low-key but Trish said she was leaving with many happy memories.

She added: "It's been very emotional and I have mixed feelings about what I'm leaving behind, but I'm looking forward to what's ahead.

"I'm leaving a lot of special memories behind. Working with children is the best job in the world.

"I've also worked with such an amazing team of people and had great support from families. They have taught me a lot over the years.

"I have seen thousands of children come through the doors, and many are now parents who I remember teaching as pupils."

Trish's teaching career began just over 30 years ago at St Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School in St Helens, before she moved to Allanson Street.
