Much-loved Great British Bake Off star Luis Troyano dies aged 48

Former Great British Bake Off finalist Luis Troyano has tragically died, aged 48.

The Poynton baker, who made it to the finals of the TV competition in 2014, passed away from oesophageal cancer.

The sad news was shared on Twitter by Luis' agent, Anne Kibel.

She wrote: "Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week.

"A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts."

A Just Giving Page has now been created in Luis' memory by his wife Louise.

Louise wrote: "Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure x

"This page has been set up for Macmillan Cancer Support but in truth, Luis gave a big thank you to everyone involved in his care.

"In Luis' own words.. A special thankyou to Macmillan Cancer Support, East Cheshire Hospice and the NHS including Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for trying to save my life and their tireless work to try and eliminate cancer.

"But more importantly a massive thank you to all the amazing professionals who really did try their absolute best for me, showed me absolute compassion and gave me more time than what was seemingly possible. I thank you sincerely."

Tributes have been pouring in for Luis, who owned The Hive Bakery in Poynton.

Former Bake Off star Ruby Tandoh wrote: "Terrible news."

Ex-winner Nadiya Hussain said: "RIP."

Another fan said: "Oh my word, what a shock reading that. He seemed such a lovely man on bake off & I followed his recipes and knee he’d been unwell but hadn’t realised he’d died. So desperately sorry for everyone who knew him. He was always respectful & a gentleman. God Bless Luis and thank you."

"Such a sad loss, such a lovely guy and brilliant baker. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends," wrote somebody else.
