Much-loved Glasgow vegan spot Gloss Canteen announces shock closure

Much-loved Glasgow vegan spot Gloss Canteen has announced its permanent closure.

The popular canteen, based within Civic House at Speirs Locks near Cowcaddens, quickly developed a real reputation among foodies in the city after opening their doors back in March last year - drawing in vegan and non-vegan punters alike thanks to their delicious one-dish-a-day meals.

Formerly known as Civic House Kitchen, it was considered a proper hidden gem of the Glasgow food and drink scene, featuring on both our list of most talked about Glasgow bars and restaurants of 2019 in December and our list of favourite vegan spots the month before.

Sadly they announced last night the closure via Facebook, citing the coronavirus pandemic.

The post read: "Hi! We are sorry to announce that Gloss canteen will not be reopening - the pandemic has hit us hard and so we aren’t in a position to open back up.

"We want to say thanks to everyone who worked with us, ate with us, came to our workshops, played music for us, danced with us, thanks to those at civic house, thanks to everyone who hired us for catering - we can’t wait to see and feed you all somewhere else soon.

"Lots of love Hannah and Jack xoxo"

A real loss to Glasgow's food and drink scene.

Let's hope Hannah and Jack find a new spot soon - 'cause we will be there in a jiffy!
