Much-loved cake shop 'left with no other choice' as it announces closure

A MUCH-LOVED cake shop has been left with “no other choice” but to close its doors due to increasing costs, bosses have said.

Cake Guru, in Broughty Ferry near Dundee, has been serving customers for five years but a “very difficult” decision has now been made to close the business.

Shop owner, Suzy Scrimgeour, has been making bespoke cakes with personalised details in the Brook Street premises.

Scrimgeour made the announcement on social media on Tuesday, stating the decision to close had not been taken lightly.

“Some sad news from us... As some of you already know, and for those who don’t, we have made the very difficult decision to close the shop in Broughty Ferry,” she said.

“It’s not a decision we have taken lightly and we are super sad to have to do so.

“However, unfortunately the increasing costs and decline in customers buying stock has given us no choice.”

Scrimgeour did add that it is not all bad news for her customers and that she plans to open at another location, but did not state where she would be moving to or when.

She added: “BUT DON’T WORRY… we will still most definitely still be making cakes for you all!

“We are just downsizing and moving to a more affordable premise that allows us to do what we do best!

“We are so sad to be leaving the shop behind and we have had the best time in the last five years getting to know you all and having a LOT of fun!

“We have made such lovely friends along the way and your support has been the best!

“Don’t worry, we still have a few months left of trading and will be having a huge closing down sale, so please make sure you check that out for lots of bargains!

“But for now, I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone of you that has supported us over the years and you all know who you are!

“Please do keep your cake orders coming in as we are filling up fast for the summer months already!”

Customers have since flocked to the comments of the Facebook post, with many saying they have been left “saddened” by the news and that they will miss the shop.

One person: “All the very best with the move Suzy, sad to see the shop close, but great we can still order cakes!”

Meanwhile, a second person said: “You will be a sad loss to the Ferry Suzy but onwards and upwards.”

Another added: “Such a shame! All the very best with your new venture.”
