A much-loved restaurant in Bury town centre is due to shut after more than 20 years.

"From the whole team to all our loyal customers, Thank you! Thank you for your continuous support over the year and for making our job- one like no others… All the best."

The restaurant, which is based inside live music and theatre venue The Met in Market Street, was set up in 2002 and was run by independent restaurant group Hollinworth & Price. The group also owned The Clarence in Bury, which shut suddenly last year.

The news of Automatic Cafe's closure has been greeted with an outpouring of sadness on social media.

Beverley Kay Kenyon-Coldridge said: "Gutted is an understatement. Loved the place.

"So many good memories of fun times. You will be missed. X good luck to everyone."

Karen Derbyshire added: "Gutted to read this. The best place in Bury for food and cocktails.

"Such a lovely atmosphere . You will definitely be missed by lots of people."
