Much-loved Ayr ladies hairdresser, Jim Higgins, celebrates 30 years in charge of Headstart

He’s always one to enjoy the limelight, and last week was no exception.

Ladies hairdresser Jim Higgins, 54, has celebrated 30 years as boss of his Headstart salon in Prestwick Road, Ayr.

And his girls past and present gathered round for a wee party.

Guests included Myra Smith who was the recipient of Jim’s first shampoo 38 years ago.

Jim opened Headstart in September 1989 and the success story continues.

And he said: “I still love my job and my customers.

“I’d like to thank all my clients for the custom and support over the past 30 years.

“And or course a big thank you to all the staff.”

The bottles were cracked open in the studio to mark the occasion.

Loyal clients have been lapping up the service (Kilmarnock Standard)

Jim is also well known on the airways, beginning at Ayr Hospital Radio, where he did a show on hair care.

Regular spots followed on WestSound and Irvine Beat FM.

He also made it to the now defunct STV2 live @5.

That culminated in a new reality programme for the BBC Scotland channel called ‘Mirror Mirror.’

That centres on the rather revealing conversations hairdressers have with their clients.

A second series begins recording shortly.

Emma Brenna, one of the stylists, said: “Jim also is a hairdresser and friend of celebrities like John Barrowman, the Krankies. Sydney Devine and Dean Park .

“He loves his job and we love him.”
