Muang Thong line up big guns

Muang Thong United coach Totchtawan Sripan, left, shakes hands with his Sanna Khanh Hoa counterpart Vo Dinh Tan during a press conference yesterday.

Despite enjoying a massive advantage, SCG Muang Thong United coach Totchtawan Sripan is leaving nothing to chance in the Toyota Mekong Club Championship final second leg against Vietnam's Sanna Khanh Hoa tonight.

The match will kick off at Supachalasai Stadium at 7pm and will be televised live by Thai Rath TV.

Thai League Cup champions Muang Thong strengthened their grip on the regional club championship trophy when they hammered Sanna Khanh Hoa 3-1 in the first leg in Hanoi on Dec 24.

Totchtawan yesterday told a pre-match news conference that he planned to field a stronger side than the one that defeated Sanna Khanh Hoa in the first leg.

"We did a great job in the first leg by grabbing three away goals," said the Kirins coach.

"For the second leg, we have the full squad because all our of foreign players and other main players are back after holidays.

"We are attaching a lot of importance to this tournament and will field our best players in the return leg.

"Although we have a three-goal advantage, we will not underestimate the Vietnamese team at all.

"Our goal is to win the trophy. It will mean a lot to us as it will boost the team's confidence before the new season starts next month."

Sanna Khanh Hoa coach Vo Dinh Tan said his team, despite their lack of experience in playing on the international stage, are firmly focused on winning the second leg of the title showdown.

"This is the first time for our team to play in the final match of a regional competition," said the Sanna Khanh Hoa coach.

"We have no experience of playing at such level and it showed in the first leg in Hanoi.

"We were below par when we lost to Muang Thong last month, but I am sure my players are capable of doing better than that.

"We know we only have a slim chance but that doesn't mean we shouldn't give it our best shot.

"We are ready to beat Muang Thong and win the second leg in Bangkok."

Meanwhile, Gabon have confirmed their participation in the 46th edition of the prestigious King's Cup in March.

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) said yesterday that Gabon, No.96 in Fifa rankings, will join hosts Thailand, Slovakia and the United Arab Emirates in the event.

Gabon are skippered by Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund's star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The King's Cup will be held from March 23-25 at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
