Producers of hit MTV series Catfish are on the lookout for Geordies to be the stars of the show now a UK version has been confirmed.
Now if you aren't familiar with the programme or even the phrase 'catfish' it is someone who lures a person into a relationship by adopting a fictional online persona, a trend that’s becoming increasingly common in a world where many romantic relationships and friendships start via apps and websites.
The show of the same name has had viewers all around the world gripped for a decade now as worried singles get in touch with the team concerned that the person they've fallen for online might not be quite what they seem.
Some episodes of the American version of Catfish, which frequently airs over here on MTVUK, have led to some truly shocking scenes when friends and even family have been the ones doing the catfishing, but there have also been some happy endings too.
And now MTV is casting for a UK-based series and looking for couples and friends from Tyneside who have never met in person or even seen each other on video chat.
A rallying call for people to star in it reads: "Whether you want to finally meet your online love or friend face-to-face, have something to confess or simply want to get to the bottom of why they always cancel dates, MTV’s Catfish UK would love to hear from you."
