Mt. Shindake erupts in Yakushima, Kagoshima Pref.

Mt. Shindake erupted on Kuchinoerabu Island in the town of Yakushima, Kagoshima Prefecture, around 9:19 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The volcano last erupted on Dec. 18 last year.

The agency said there is no danger to residential areas. The Volcanic Alert Level has been set at Level 3, meaning no one should approach the volcano.
