A 56-year-old man died in a vehicle crash Saturday night on Interstate 55 near Bridgeport on the South Side, according to preliminary information from Illinois State police.
An investigation found that about 11:30 p.m., the man, of Mt. Prospect, was driving a silver 2000 Toyota Avalon north on I-55 just south of Princeton Avenue, when he veered off the road to the right and lost control, state police said. The Avalon struck some trees along the grassy median before rolling along an embankment and landing on the slip ramp from Interstate 94 southbound towards I-55 northbound.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. A passenger of the Avalon, a 16-year-old girl from Oak Lawn, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
About 11:50 p.m., the ramp from I-94 southbound towards I-55 northbound was closed for an investigation, but reopened by 2 a.m., state police said.
