MSU vs. Indiana Preview: three things to watch

Michigan State football welcomes Indiana this Saturday. Indiana is fresh off of a 38-3 victory over Uconn. Last year, MSU beat the Hoosiers 35-21. Here are three things to watch for in this upcoming game.

Spartans Defense Will Go Bananas

Indiana LT Coy Cronk is out for the season with a foot injury that requires surgery. Michigan State fans know this story all too well. The game of musical chairs rarely bodes well for an offensive line. New positions change your blocking assignments and this becomes tricky. Enter the Spartans monstrous defense.

Did you hear about Joe Bachie’s game against Northwestern? It was insane. He was all over the field totaling up a career-high 14 tackles. Certainly, Michigan State’s defense will be firing on all cylinders. Look for them to take advantage of a weakened Indiana offensive line.

MSU Offense Unleashed

QB Brian Lewerke is not perfect, but, he can be exciting to watch. His arm is a cannon. I mean a literal cannon. Against Northwestern, Lewerke was confident and played well. He put up 228 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The Spartans should embrace this confidence and reward him with big plays. Strike while the iron is hot!

Michigan State did not waste any time getting on the board against Northwestern. An early touchdown brings confidence to the entire offensive unit. If the Spartans are on the board early then Indiana is in trouble.

Matt Seybert Receives More Targets

MSU TE Matt Seybert came to MSU as a walk-on. Now, he is on a scholarship. This comes on the heels of his breakout performance against Northwestern. After all, he made two touchdown grabs for the Spartans. What’s most impressive, these were the first two touchdowns of his career. An absolutely heartwarming story for Seybert. No doubt Dantonio and Salem get him more targets against Indiana. Best of all, this opens up the field for other skilled positions.

This weekend is almost upon us. Be sure to tune in and watch the Spartans at 3:30 P.M. this Saturday, Sept. 28th. We just might see another showcase performance from the MSU offense.
