MSU Softball: Spartans drop first game to Michigan, rematch next Tuesday

It has been a rough season for Michigan State’s Softball team. The ladies of Secchia Stadium, led by long-time coach Jacquie Joseph, are currently 15-25 on the season, and 3-9 in the Big Ten Conference. That fortune continued through this afternoon, where they lost their first game of the season against the Michigan Wolverines.

The team has a huge rivalry week that just kicked off with today’s loss to the Wolverines, where they will be playing seven of eight games at home, with their only away game during that stretch coming in Ann Arbor next Tuesday where they will look for revenge over today’s 12-1 beatdown.

Michigan State has not been traditionally strong in softball, with their lifetime record against the Wolverines being 29-91. However, the team will have a valuable chance to make ground in the conference with this stretch.

The Spartans have a three-game stretch against Ohio State, all at home, through the weekend, then have their one away game against Michigan Tuesday, and that will lead immediately into another three-game home stretch next weekend against Northwestern.

Additional notes: The Spartans’ matchup with Ohio State Saturday is their ‘Strike Out Cancer’ game and will begin at 11:00am ET in East Lansing at Secchia Stadium.
