MSU rival U of M takes another hit as they lose top basketball assistant to Texas

I am sure that many Michigan State fans are delighting in the turnover and seeming turnover that has started at Michigan with the departure of John Beilein. Well, those fans will be delighted to hear that they will also be losing one of their top assistant coaches and defensive coordinators to Texas coach Shaka Smart, as reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein today.

I am a little conflicted on how I feel about this news currently. On the one hand, yeah, I will never openly root for Michigan to do well. However, I will look back pretty fondly at the Beilein era because Michigan was stable and competitive, making the rivalry with Michigan State much more satisfying. I am not discounting Juwan Howard (although if you are rooting against Michigan, you are happy with them signing a rookie head coach), but after losing Beilein and now their top defensive coordinator, this could be a rough few years for the Wolverines. I’ll let you decide if that excites you or not.
