MSU recruiting target QB Chubba Purdy chooses Louisville over Spartans

After a fun day watching as Matt McQuaid and Nick Ward sign Summer League deals with the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks, respectively, we received some terribly upsetting, devastating news that Chubba Purdy has committed to play quarterback for the University of Louisville. As we have covered, Chubba Purdy has been, seemingly, the top quarterback prospect for Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State football team, and, quite frankly, this is not a good development for the 2020 recruiting class.

Purdy, a 4-star recruit from Arizona, is a dual-threat, exciting QB who would have given the Spartans a dynamic option under center that we have not really seen in East Lansing, at least in a featured role, in a long time.

After Michael Alaimo, a 4-star quarterback from New Jersey committed to Purdue, it seemed like the Spartans were locked in on Chubba. Now, a lot of pressure will fall on Rocky Lombardi’s shoulders to be the quarterback of the future in East Lansing.
