MSU offense beats defense for second time in preseason scrimmages

According to Brian Lewerke, Michigan State’s offense beat the defense for the second time in preseason scrimmages, although he noted that they weren’t quite as sharp as the first scrimmage. He thinks the final score was 49-48.

Does the bode well for the offense, who is coming off of a mediocre (that’s kind) season?

Yes, I think so.

Does this bode poorly for the defense?

Ehhhhhh. It doesn’t inherently mean the defense is in trouble but it does raise some questions.

I mean, let’s not overreact here. MSU’s defense should be one of the best in college football this year. It’s hard for us fans to know how hard the defense is going in these scrimmages. I doubt they are really going max speed against an offense they need to be healthy this year if the team is going to have a shot.

It’s worth noting that Dantonio is notorious for making sure these scrimmages stay close, so we really shouldn’t be reading too much into this outcome, except that the offense is probably better than last year (low bar, I know).
