USA TODAY does their own national college football rankings every week, and they are a little different than the AP and Amway Coaches Polls in that they rank every single team in college football. In their latest set of rankings, MSU was ranked 35th overall after the win against Northwestern.
While Michigan State’s win over Northwestern was strong, it will still take another win against Indiana this week for them to make any sort of push to rise up the power rankings. Of course, they’ll also have to grapple with their hardest matchup of the season the following weekend against Ohio State.
35th overall seems a little low in USA TODAY’s rankings, given that they are ranked all the way at #25 in the AP Poll, but I am completely fine with Mark Dantonio and the Spartans playing the role of underdog, that’s where they always seem most comfortable anyway.
