MSU Men’s Soccer unable to break tie with Florida Gulf Coast University

MSU Men’s Soccer team could not capitalize on their strong chances in an even tilt with the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and ended the game in a tie.

Spartan GK Hunter Morse put on a show-stopping performance. Both teams were even heading into the half. Then, Morse was on full display with three saves right after halftime. Hunter also batted away a freekick at the 71-minute mark. Jack Beck’s foul rewarded the Eagles offense with a penalty kick. Florida Gulf Coast Forward Ivan Rosales delivered. However, Eagles GK Gustavo Vasconcelos committed a foul with only 57 seconds left on the clock. Michigan State’s Alex Shterenberg stepped up with a crunch time goal.

Locked at 1-1, Michigan State and Florida Gulf Coast went to overtime to no avail. Gianna Ferri could not score on his two shots on goal. Still even, both times went into double-overtime. Neither capitalized on scoring chances and the game ended with a draw. This gives the Spartans their second draw, now 0-0-2 on the season.

Catch the MSU Men’s Soccer team on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 P.M. on the Big Ten Network.
