MSU G Cassius Winston comments on hamstring injury: “I’m back”

Michigan State’s star point guard and reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Cassius Winston has been nursing a ‘minor’ hamstring injury he suffered back in September, but after practice today he told reporters, “I’m back.”

This is certainly encouraging given that we are just a few weeks out from basketball season (!!!!) and with the heavy expectations that have been put on this team, as well as Winston himself, you don’t really want to hear about ANY injuries, even minor ones.

I am really glad that he feels like he is back, but I will admit that the extremely nervous Michigan State fan in me is anxious that the hamstring was nagging enough that it clearly made him not feel himself for a few weeks, but the newfound Spartans optimist in me tells me this was just a blip on the radar as we enter a historic season.

“I do need to manage their minutes,” Izzo told Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press. “I’m trying not to learn from the NBA, though. I don’t want to be into load management. … I was happy that Cassius is really working on his defense a lot harder. His legs and his body are a lot better, his legs are a lot stronger. Some of the things he needed to do, I think he did a pretty good job so far.”
