MSU freshman Julius Marble already getting big-time player comparisons

For the 2019 recruiting class, it seems like all the coverage has been about Malik Hall and Rocket Watts. That’s not exactly unwarranted as Hall and Watts are both ranked in the top 60 players in their class, but based on player comparisons made by Izzo and others, we might be sleeping a little too much on Julius Marble, the 3-star forward from Texas.

When it was announced in April that Marble signed a letter of intent to Michigan State, Izzo immediately compared him to Andre Hutson. Spartan fans will recall that Izzo won his only title with Hutson on the roster, a feat he will be trying to repeat this season.

Here is the rogues’ gallery of everyone else Marble has been compared to thus far:

  • Kenny Goins
  • Draymond Green
  • Adreian Payne
  • Xavier Tillman
  • Jaren Jackson Jr.

Yeah, not a bad list to be compared to. Of course, those are five of the more successful Spartans in the history of the program, so he has a long way to go before he is at that level.

However, Matt Schoch of The Detroit News noted that players seem very excited about Marble, saying that Izzo might have found a steal and that his three-point shooting ability is legitimate. We’ll have a lot to find out about Marble this season, that’s for sure.
