Well, we all knew this day would come. For better or for worse, the day of the neon jerseys dawns tomorrow at home against Western Michigan. Michigan State Football’s equipment staff Twitter posted a photo of the neon helmets today.
Of course, these uniforms have been almost universally panned and mocked since they were unveiled in the spring. You will be hard-pressed to find a Spartan fan who is brave enough to say they like these, but hey, let’s see what they look like on the field, at night, under the bright lights.
I think we as a society can sometimes be too swift to judge something just because it’s new or different. I will reserve my judgment for exactly one half of football tomorrow before I give the thumbs up or down. I mean, everyone thought the Detroit Pistons teal jerseys in the nineties were stupid, but now in 2019 I see tons of fans yearning for them to return. Maybe that’ll be the case with these neon jerseys…
