MSU football trails Wisconsin 17-0: Halftime Thoughts

Michigan State trails Wisconsin 17-0. Things are not looking good. The Badgers forced multiple three-and-out Spartan possessions. This game is tough to watch. There has yet to be any silver lining for the Spartans. Lewerke is not playing well, the defense cannot contain Wisconsin, and the future looks bleak. Here are some quick halftime thoughts:

Wisconsin’s Offense Is Going Off

Wisconsin Jack Coan is at the top of his game right now. He is currently 14/16 for 126 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Most importantly, Coan hits receivers despite tight coverage. MSU CB Josiah Scott covers players incredibly close. It does not matter for Coan though. Plus, WR Quintez Cephus has an absolutely ridiculous catch. Check out his catch below:

Containing Jonathan Taylor

Listen, this could be a lot worse. It’s not great to be down 17-0 against Wisconsin at the half, but, there is room to come back. MSU must contain Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor in the second half. So far, Taylor has 17 carries for 58 yards and only one touchdown. Again, it could be worse. Wisconsin was unable to score on the first drive for the first time all year. That is certainly an accomplishment. The Spartan’s offense must deliver.

Offensive Frustrations Continue

Yet again, Michigan State’s offense looks bleak. QB Brian Lewerke is back to his inaccurate ways. All the while, the offensive line struggles to provide Lewerke with time. Elijah Collins is unable to get the run game going so far in the first half. Remember, RB’s Connor Heyward and La’Darius Jefferson both entered the transfer portal. They were the two best pass blocking RB’s.

Michigan State must put pressure on Wisconsin’s offense. The defense cannot carry them against a formidable opponent. Hopefully, things pick up in the second half.
