MSU Football: RB Elijah Collins not officially the starter for the rest of the season

After Elijah Collins’ exploded for 192 rushing yards on 17 carries against Western Michigan, it looked like Michigan State had found their starting running back for the remainder of the season. In fact, he was listed as the only RB1 against Arizona State. However, Head Coach Mark Dantonio was hesitant to officially give Collins the title of starting running back for the rest of the season.

“As far as a rotation,” Dantonio said, “that’s a coaching decision that we’ll continue to make on week-to-week.”

While Collins didn’t have a monstrous game against ASU like he did the week before, he still rushed for 72 yards and scored Michigan State’s only touchdown.

“I think that Elijah continues to come,” Dantonio said Sunday. “They had a lot of people at the point of attack – as I said going into the football game, they put a lot of people there with different stunts. I thought he played OK, he’ll continue to get better.”
