MSU Football #5 in Detroit Free Press Big Ten Power Rankings

The Detroit Free Press’ Kirkland Crawford has begun his weekly Power Rankings for Big Ten Football and Michigan State has come in at #5 overall after their win over Tulsa Friday.

The top five looks like this:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Michigan
  3. Wisconsin
  4. Penn State
  5. Michigan State

From Crawford:

“Maybe the Spartans are saving their offensive wrinkles for the Big Ten schedule. Because we certainly didn’t see anything new about Brad Salem’s new plans. The good news is, we didn’t see anything new with that defense, too. MSU may not need much of an offense if they can dominate like they did in the 28-7 win over Tulsa on Friday.”

While this may not be the result Michigan State fans want, it’s a fair ranking as Michigan State didn’t really succeed in answering many questions about their offense. The defense might be all-time levels of good, but until they prove they can move the football on offense they won’t be getting too much hype.
