MSU DE Kenny Willekes named Walter Camp Football National Defensive Player of the Week

The hype is real. After a strong showing against Tulsa, Kenny Willekes is the Walter Camp Football Defensive Player of the Week. The fifth-year senior put on a show in the home opener against Tulsa. Willekes recovered two fumbles and recorded 7 tackles including a sack. One fumble recovery resulted in a touchdown for Michigan State. Kenny wrapped up Tulsa QB Zach Smith. MSU DT Raequan Williams knocked the ball loose and Kenny recovered the fumble. Sure, the offensive needs work. But, the Spartan defense looks absolutely impeccable.

Kenny Willekes raked in the preseason accolades. Against Tulsa, he tied teammates Antjuan Simmons and Jacub Panasiuk with 2.5 tackles for losses as well. All the while, Spartans limited the Tulsa offense to -73 rushing yards, a new school record.

Michigan State returns to the football field this upcoming Saturday when they host Western Michigan at 7:30 P.M.
