MSU Basketball: Hauser Brothers set to visit Michigan State soon

After Nick Ward announced he would leave Michigan State for the NBA Draft and the Spartans solidified their recruiting class with Julius Marble, Rocket Watts, and Malik Hall they now have one scholarship slot available for the 2019-20 season.

It has been confirmed that Tom Izzo is looking into the transfer pool to fill that spot, and the Hauser Brothers from Marquette are two of the top players available. In a tweet, Mark Miller, of the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook, announced that the brothers will be visiting East Lansing May 3-5.

This is an interesting transfer option for MSU. As undergrad transfers, the brothers would have to sit out a season, per NCAA rules. Also, since Michigan State only has one scholarship available for two players, it would mean one of two things:

A) Someone would have to transfer out of Michigan State to make room.

B) The brothers would only get one scholarship between the two of them next year, then take an additional scholarship in 2020-21.

For what it’s worth, the Hauser brothers are two of the top three sit-out transfers this year, weirdly leaving a Marquette team that just announced they’d be returning star player Markus Howard. They are both stretch power forwards who shoot over 40% from three and both are great rebounders.
