MSU Basketball: Do the Spartans have a shot to recruit Jaemyn Brakefield?

Tom Izzo looked to have already made his big splash in the 2020 recruiting class with point guard Jalen Terry. Sure, Izzo was going to do his due diligence on top prospects like Isaiah Jackson and Cam’Ron Fletcher, but recently a new name was added to that list: Jaemyn Brakefield, five-star power forward out of Huntington, West Virginia.

This is an interesting development as Jaemyn Brakefield was not really mentioned as a suitor for Michigan State until a few days ago when Joe Tipton of Tipton Edits said that Michigan State is one of the five teams trying the hardest to recruit him.

I am thinking that Izzo is making this push because of the recent emergence of Xavier Tillman. After Tillman was unleashed this year after the injury of Nick Ward, he immediately established himself as an NBA prospect who could very well leave after this upcoming season. Brakefield would add a huge influx of talent to the frontcourt after Tillman departs.

Brakefield is still ‘forecasted’ to go to Ole Miss on 247sports but we will keep an eye on this story.
