MSU Basketball Associate Head Coach inducted into Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame

A Step Up Inc., an organization designed for the betterment of coaches, has added a new Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame. Michigan State’s own Associate Head Coach Dwayne Stephen’s was one of twelve coaches to be selected for the inaugural class.

The class also included Chris Dailey (UConn), Donny Daniels (Gonzaga), Stan Jones (Florida State), Carol Owens (Notre Dame), Steve Robinson (North Carolina) and Amy Tucker (Stanford) and Mickie DeMoss.

The criteria for the Hall of Fame selection process was this:

“Respect among colleagues for high moral character and integrity, made significant contributions to the game and/or teams coached, must be a current College Basketball Assistant Coach or Retired as a College Basketball Assistant Coach who has been a part of winning Championship caliber programs.”

Coach Stephens played at Michigan State from 1989-93. He has been with the team as an assistant for 16 years, with the last 7 years working under the title of Associate Head Coach. Stephens specializes in player development, scouting, and recruiting. According to msuspartans.com, he worked closely with eight players selected in the NBA draft, including Draymond Green, Adreian Payne, Branden Dawson, Deyonta Davis, Miles Bridges, and Jaren Jackson Jr.

Through Stephens’ time at MSU, the Spartans have captured four Big Ten Championships and made 17 straight NCAA Tournaments.
