The European flag is to continue flying outside the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh after Brexit, following a last-minute vote by MSPs.
The Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB), which rules on the management of Holyrood, had previously decided to lower the flag at 11pm on 31 January - when the UK officially leaves the EU.
However, despite opposition from The Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats, SNP secured the flag vote with the support of the Scottish Greens, as MSPs voted by 63 to 54 to overturn the decision by the governing body.
Some SNP and pro-Europe members had been furious when Holyrood’s six-member cross-party business group decided earlier this month to remove the symbol from outside parliament on Brexit day, reports the Daily Record.
Former Europe minister and SNP MSP Alasdair Allan also launched a campaign to keep the EU flag, arguing that "Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in Europe".
Pro-Europe campaigners are set to protest outside Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh on Brexit Day, with The European Movement in Scotland - who organised a march through the capital against Brexit earlier last year - set take to the streets again.
