Central Scotland MSP Monica Lennon has vowed to continue the fight against the proposed incinerator in Stonehouse.
The Scottish Labour politician recently pressed for a moratorium on new incinerators with new SNP Net Zero spokesperson Michael Matheson.
However, she was disappointed at not getting enough clarity on why it won't be put in place when the question was raised at Holyrood.
Waste management giants Viridor proposed the landfill diversion facility south of Larkhall and Stonehouse, saying their Energy Recovery Proposals (ERF) for South Lanarkshire have the potential to generate enough electricity to power over half of the region’s homes.
Also opposing the move this year is Christina McKelvie who wrote to the Scottish Government in March calling for a national moratorium which could halt plans for the one planned at Overwood Farm.
Meanwhile, large sections of the community have made their objections clear since proposals resurfaced earlier this year.
Ms Lennon raised the proposed development at Overwood Farm at Stonehouse as part of questioning why the SNP Government won’t commit to a moratorium whilst their review of incineration takes place.
She said: “I was disappointed not to get a clear answer from the SNP Minister on why they won’t instigate a moratorium on new incinerators until their review is complete.
“Communities like Stonehouse can’t afford to fight proposals for years and years on end.
“I will keep fighting against this proposal and standing up for my constituents.”
