MSP joins fight to save pensioner's garden as petition reaches 5700 signatures

Wishaw's MSP has responded to the ongoing campaign to save a pensioner's much-loved garden.

An online petition aims to save Newmains resident Pamela McLaughlan's garden, which is under threat of being removed and grassed over.

This is because Wishaw and District Housing Association claims it made a mistake when allocating garden space.

Trust Housing is now responsible for all previous Wishaw and District Housing tenants, having taken over a couple of years ago.

The online petition, launched by Paul Jordan, now has more than 5700 signatures demanding Pamela's garden remains.

Now, Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson has got involved in the campaign.

She told Lanarkshire Live: "I am concerned over the way this situation has been handled.

Mrs McLaughlan has looked after this garden for nearly three decades.

"I have written to the Housing Association to establish what action it will take to bring about a fair solution.

"The last 18 months, more than most, has shown the importance of outdoor spaces. I do not think it would be reasonable or fair to wipe away 28 years of love and effort on the basis of a Housing Association error."

Lanarkshire Live has contacted Trust Housing for a response.
