Hamilton’s shop owners are key to the town centre’s future, claimed MSP Monica Lennon following a recent walkabout.
The former Hamilton councillor was taking part in the MSP Connector Programme, organised by Scotland’s Towns Partnership.
Now in its fifth year, MSPs are encouraged to spend a day visiting towns in the area they represent.
Ms Lennon, a Labour MSP for Central Scotland, spent a day in Hamilton talking to business owners and finding out more about what the town centre has to offer.
She was hosted by Gareth Walker, manager of the Hamilton Business Improvement District (BID); Mark Calpin, BID chairman; and Regent Centre manager Bill Reid.
The purpose of the programme is to raise the profile of towns to MSPs and celebrate and raise awareness of the opportunities and barriers that towns are facing.
Ms Lennon said:“Towns like Hamilton are key to Scotland’s economy, delivering jobs and supporting the people in our community.
“It was great to speak to passionate local entrepreneurs who put customer service at the forefront of their businesses.”
And she added: “I will continue to work with Hamilton BID and local business owners to listen to the their ideas to improve the town centre for everyone who lives, works and spends their time and money here.”
