MS Dhoni: Former India captain announces retirement from international cricket

India legend Mahendra Singh (MS) Dhoni appears to have announced his retirement from international cricket in a cryptic post on Instagram.

Dhoni was India’s captain when they pulled off an unforgettable win at their home World Cup in 2011, guiding them to glory in the final with 91 not out against Sri Lanka.

He was also the skipper four years earlier when India won the inaugural World T20, beating Pakistan in the final.

Having first played for India in 2004, Dhoni amassed a remarkable 350 ODIs, 98 T20Is and 90 Tests until his retirement from the latter format six years ago.

Dhoni, 39, has not played for India for more than a year anyway, with his last appearance coming in the semi-final of last year’s World Cup.

"Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as retired,” Dhoni wrote on Instagram on Saturday.

Dhoni is expected to continue playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, where he is captain.
