Mrudul, Raunak to play six-team, 36-master Chess Super League

NAGPUR: Promising city masters Mrudul Dehankar and Raunak Sadhwani will be making moves with world's best Grandmasters when the first season of Chess Super League begins online from October 11 to 17.

The first season of the Indian league will see 36 best masters from across the globe vying for the honours in the six-team event. The league will feature six top international GMs in both men and women sections, and India's six best players in the senior and junior categories, respectively.

Both Mrudul and Raunak will play alongside the likes of Ding Liren, Anish Giri, Teimour Radjabov, Hikaru Nakamura, Vidit Gujrathi, Hou Yifan, Anna Muzychuk, Mariya Muzychuk and Koneru Humpy to name a few.

The games will be played on the platform of chess.com in the rapid format with a time control of 15 minutes plus a 10-second increment.

Nagpur's second Women International Master (WIM) Mrudul will represent Krazy Knights in the seven-day event. World No. 3 Nakamura will be the star attraction in Mrudul's team.

Maharashtra's youngest and Nagpur's lone GM Raunak will be a member of the Brutal Bishops besides China No. 2 Wang Hao and India No. 4 Vidit Gujrathi.

The other four teams in the Rs40 lakh prize fund league include Pivotal Pawns, The Kingslayers, Ruthless Rooks and Quintessential Queens.

The first five days of the tournament will see a league stage with different pools, from which the top four teams will qualify for the playoffs.
