The cabinet has rejected a price hike request by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) for the MRT Blue Line, citing the fact it has given the public less than 30 days' notice.
Nattaporn Jatusripitak, an adviser at the Prime Minister's Office, said after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday that the MRTA had originally planned to start hiking fares on July 3.
"It is already specified in the [Blue Line's] contract with the organisation that it must inform the public of the changes at least 30 days in advance," he said.
Mr Nattaporn said he has instructed the Transport Ministry to hold talks with the operator of the Blue Line, the Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc, before resubmitting the request to the cabinet.
The MRTA, a government organisation under the ministry, is allowed to request fare hikes every two years.
