Kingston doughnut shop Mrs Kim's Donuts announced on Monday that it will be reopening this week under new management.

The store closed its doors in December after a gastro outbreak was linked to its doughnuts. At the time, ACT Health was notified of 170 complaints of people falling ill after consuming food from Mrs Kim's Donuts.

But with new management, the store will be back dishing up the gourmet doughnuts that it became known for from Wednesday.

Mrs Kim's opened on July 8, 2021 and became a popular takeaway option for locked down Canberrans, selling up to 1000 doughnuts a day.

The store specialised in gourmet flavours, with its menu changing regularly. Doughnuts included flavours such Biscoff Milky Bar Gold, Lemon Cheesecake and Snickers Custard.

Mrs Kim's Donuts new menu is yet to be released.

While the small business took its Facebook, Instagram and Uber Eats profiles down after the health incident late last year, the new management has reinstated Instagram to announce the store's new opening date.

At the time of the incident an ACT Health spokesperson said it planned to work with the business to ensure it was providing safe food.

"ACT public health officers undertake routine and proactive compliance activities with food businesses to ensure they are meeting their obligations under the Food Act 2001 for the safety of the community," a government spokesperson said.
