Mrs Hinch fans share top tip to stop washing machine door seal going mouldy

Mrs Hinch gained popularity after sharing her cleaning tips on social media and on TV – and now her army of 4.1 million fans have created their own social media groups to spread more tips and tricks amongst themselves.

One question recently asked by a member of a Facebook group with 750,000 members focused on how to keep the rubber seal around a washing machine door clean.

The user wrote: "So, just had to get a new washing machine. What do I do to stop the rubber around the door going black?”

Over 130 people took to the comments to respond with their tips, including leaving the door open and opting for washing powder over liquid, as reports Daily Express.

Mrs Hinch previously shared her own video on how to clean a washing machine (@mrshinchhome/Instagram)

One comment read: “Leave the door ajar between washes.

"Regularly do a 60C wash for towels. For example, with washing powder and oxygen bleach and no conditioner, which doubles as a machine clean wash."

While another posted: “Don’t use liquid use powder.

“There are no enzymes in liquid like in powder.

“Powder enzymes keep the mould and black in the drawer away.”

A popular preventative measure was leaving the door open between washes (@mrshinchhome/Instagram)

Using powder was the most popular suggestion, with one user also stating they do a specific "machine clean" with bleach every few washes.

They wrote: "Every few washes I do machine clean on detox and bleach in powder tray.

"I also changed back to powder instead of pods and liquid.

"This has stopped the smell from the sink as our washing machine and sink go down the same pipe like in many new houses - double win!"

And a fourth commenter added: "Alternate between powder and liquid, do hot washes with powder regularly, and leave the door ajar between washes."

If you do find your machine door seal getting mouldy, one poster suggested using white vinegar to clean the rubber.

They posted: "Clean with white vinegar."

Other suggestions from cleaning enthusiasts include using salt, Dettol, dishwasher tablets, Zoflora and soda crystals.
