One member took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group for help in her home. Group member La Ros posted a picture of her wooden TV stand which had been stained with cup marks. She asked: "Hiya, does anyone know how to get these cup stains out from wood?"
Members of the Facebook group were quick to offer their solutions. Popular suggestions included Wood Silk and using walnut halves. Vikki Tollan said: "Wood silk is brilliant for this, or a rub a walnut over it!".
Brenda Truter said: "I’ve used as did my mother, shelled and cut Brazil or walnut halves. Just rub the cut side into the stain a good few times and just maybe this will work for you."
But the most popular response was both cheap and surprising. Dozens of people commented to suggest using mayonnaise to get rid of the stains. The suggested method is as follows:
- Dab some mayonnaise onto a rag then gently apply it to the stained area of wood
- Let the mayonnaise sit on the stain for a few hours or overnight
- Wipe away with a clean cloth
The original author of the post updated the group to tell them that the mayonnaise hack worked. She added: "Just rubbed it on with a dry cloth, worked great."
