Mrs Hinch fans share 'no-effort hack' for cleaning yellow stains from pillows

Cleaning fans have shared their tips for cleaning unsightly stubborn yellow stains from pillows - and the most popular one will set you back just 4p. Sweat, oily or wet hair, make-up, skincare - these are just some of the reasons why our pillows can become discoloured over time.

While it's important to wash your pillows regularly to stop the build-up of bacteria, when pillows turn yellow it can be incredibly difficult to get the stains out. That particular problem was shared in a Facebook group for fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, with one person left at the end of their tether after failed attempts to get rid of the stains, the Express reports.

After trying white vinegar and baking soda to no avail, Hannah Webster asked fellow cleaning fanatics what else she could try to tackle the problem. "Hi, how does everyone remove yellow stains from their pillows, mine is covered in them," she wrote.

“I’ve tried using baking soda and white vinegar but the stains are still there. What else can I try?”

There were more than 300 comments on her plea for help, with cleaning enthusiasts sharing what has worked for them when trying to get rid of those unsightly stains. Surprisingly, one of the most popular solutions for tackling the stains was a simple dishwasher tablet.

Costing as little as 4p a tablet, Facebook users were full of praise for the product, saying it was a "no effort" hack for getting pillows and white laundry looking fresh again. Steven Reader said: “Nothing has given me better results when washing my pillow than a dishwasher tablet has.”

Cat Christine said: “Use a dishwasher tablet in your washing machine. It’s a no-effort hack to get all the stains off in just one wash cycle.”

Sandra Moore added: “I always use a dishwasher tablet to wash my pillows and any white laundry. My whites and pillows have never looked so white.”

Mandy Williams-Moss wrote: “Add a dishwasher tablet to your washing machine when cleaning your pillow with nothing else and it’ll come out gleaming.”

A pack of 30 dishwasher tablets can be picked up from Asda for £1.34 - working out as 4p per tablet. But the cleaning product is also widely available from other major supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s and Tesco.

Meanwhile, other Mrs Hinch fans suggested soda crystals can be effective for removing yellow stains from pillows. Rachel Allen said: “I add a cup of soda crystals to my washing machine when cleaning my pillows. It works wonders.”

Lyn Keith commented: “I’ve never seen better results than what soda crystals offer.”

Sylvia Smith advised: “Use soda crystals. Not only will it remove pillow stains but it also helps to keep the washing machine clean.”

Sharon Bardin added: “Don’t use white vinegar in your washing machine, it damages it. Use soda crystals instead.”
