Mrs Hinch fans share method to banish limescale from shower door with unusual tea hack

Tea is one of the nation's favourite drinks, but did you know the well loved brew can also be used to clean the shower?

There are countless products on the market, which all claim to tackle different stains and problems. But if you're not keen on adding another bottle to your cupboard, there are plenty of natural ways to clean your home.

This latest cleaning revelation comes courtesy of Mrs Hinch fans, who regularly share their wealth of cleaning tips on their Facebook page and are followers of cleaning influencer Sophie Hinchliffe.

The scrubbing enthusiasts have once again come to the rescue, after one woman took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips forum on social media to find out how to rid her shower door of limescale stains.

Sharing snaps of the marks, as well as different single use products that she had already tried, one woman asked: "I’ve just moved into a property, there is limescale on the shower screen which I have been really struggling to get off.

"I have used three different limescale products and it’s not budging...Any suggestions what I can use?"

Comments quickly flooded with various suggestions to tackle the problem, but one that stood out was to clean the affected areas with black tea.

One user explained their method: "Cold brewed tea in a squirty bottle, spray leave for a couple mins, and then wipe with a microfibre cloth, and rinse."

“Boil some water and add a tea bag to it, like you would when making a cup of tea, and wipe it on the screen with a cloth," wrote another. "Then rinse and wipe down." A third simply penned: "Cold black tea."

So, how can the popular drink banish limescale stains? Tea contains high amounts of tannic acid which makes the liquid an astringent that can break down the hard water build up.

Other suggestions made by members to clean the shower door include vinegar, baking soda and even shower cream. While the latter is supposed to banish facial hair, a professional cleaner said it can also get rid of stains.

"Shaving foam. I clean for a living and this is what I use every time," she wrote.
