Mrs Hinch fans share cheap but effective tip to tackle window condensation

Condensation on windows can be a real pain, but fortunately cleaning enthusiasts have revealed a cheap and effective trick.

Fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch took to social media to share the 29p tip.

Mrs Hinch - whose real name is Sophie Hinchcliffe - rose to fame after sharing cleaning hacks on social media. She now boosts a huge following of 4.2million on Instagram.

Inspired, fans have now created their own range of social media groups to help each other out with cleaning questions.

And among the hints and tips offered up was an effective method to prevent window condensation, reports The Express.

On one Facebook group, Sophie Randell posted: “Please help!! Just moved into a rented property and without a fail everyday the windows have condensation like this.

“I’ve tried the little [dehumidifier] pots shown in the picture to help but it’s made zero difference.

“Any advice on how to stop this would be brill! It even leaks water onto the window seal some days from how much condensation there is.”

Sophie’s post was inundated with comments and advice but the most popular response was to use salt.

Marilyn Earp said: “Put salt in a bowl on the window sill. It will draw the damp to it.”

Suze Josh Eleanor-Lewis replied: “Leave a little pot or two of salt on your window sill.

“It draws the moisture. Just put a fresh pot/bowl out each night.”

Heather Knight agreed and said: “I’d recommend that too.”

Amy Crolla said: “People on here suggesting window vacs but no one’s got any money for that especially coming up to Christmas.

“Here’s a cheaper way, grab a big plastic tub and make your own dehumidifier by putting cat litter or salt or even sugar in it - anything that will absorb moisture.

“Also to wipe away the water on the windows, the micro cloth are great they soak up loads of water.

“Sell them for £1 pack of five in your local £1 shop or B&M. Hope this helps.”

Morrisons Table Salt costs just 29p while 1.5kg of Essential Cooking Salt costs 95p from Waitrose.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using a window squeegee, using an installation kit or getting an air chimney fitted.

Hannah Frances wrote: “We have this on the windows we haven’t changed. I use a window vac everyday.

“But if money is tight an ordinary window squeegee (about £1.50 from B&M) and a towel is just as good.

“I found wiping the windows once a week with white vinegar also reduced the condensation.

“Try to open the windows in the morning (once the curtains are open).

“It’s a sign that your house is nice and warm but the window units may be old and not as energy efficient.

“Our new windows don’t do this at all and my heating bill has been cut in half as the house is so warm too.”
