Mrs Hinch fans have shared some cost-effective drying hacks on their Facebook group, with one being described as a "game changer". As energy prices have risen, households may be looking for ways to cut back on consumption.
A tumble dryer now costs around 67p per cycle, according to Uswitch, leaving some looking for alternative ways to dry their clothes. Fans of Sophie Hinchcliffe - better known as Mrs Hinch - have recently traded tips on drying clothes in their popular Facebook group.
Hinchers - as the fans sometimes describe themselves - are well-known for sharing thrifty home hacks and tips. As reported by the Express, some shared the electric clothes airers that they would purchase, while others recommended other drying methods.
This was in response to a user posting: "Looking for recommendations on an electric clothes airer. Budget of around £100." One commenter suggested a Lakeland dryer, calling it "amazing" and adding that it dries a full wash load in less than two hours. The user also says that it only costs 24p an hour to run.
"I have Dry Buddy and I love it," commented a second user. Members of the group say that they have them in Lidl for £44.99, while others recommended Aldi, and one user said they had paid £45 for theirs from Home Bargains.
A third commenter had a drying method that consisted only of using one's radiator, a normal drying rack, and a sheet. They said: "If you have radiators, use a normal maiden and cover it with a sheet over it and tucked around the top of the radiator. Dries quick."
Agreeing with this, a fourth user wrote: "If you cover the heater with a large sheet or cover it keeps the heat in and dries better. I have used mine for 10 years and wouldn’t be without it."
One warned against using an electric airer, commenting: "Don’t waste your money. I’ve got one £149.99. Plugged it in, put clothes on, it dried three quarters. Had to move them about all the time. Normal airer near your radiator works better!"
"I bought the three tier one and was disappointed as it took ages to dry anything. Then tried it with a cover from Dunelm. Game changer! Clothes dry in approximately three to four hours," added another.
Others recommended a dehumidifier, with one saying: "Get a wooden clothes airer and a dehumidifier! Best combination ever!" Another said: "Dehumidifier every time. Just bought one at the weekend and it's a game changer."
A third Hincher, who warned against electric clothes airers, said: "Don’t do it! Buy a dehumidifier! I love mine - clothes dry in half the time."
The cost of a dehumidifier depends on its size - a mini one is currently on sale at Argos for £50, while a much bigger one costs £200 on the retailer's website.
