A group of Mrs Hinch fans have shared a top tip for getting the smell of damp out of clothes, and it will only set you back around 80p. The conversation was sparked after a mum shared how her daughter's school blazer 'always smells damp', even straight out of the washing machine.
None of the other clothes she washes have this smell, and she had no clue what to do after trying out a number of hacks. Before turning to members of a Mrs Hinch Facebook group for help, she'd tried washing the blazer on its own, popping scent boosters in the drum, and Zoflora, but to no avail.
Detailing her 'stinky' blazer plight in the group, the fed-up mum sighed: "It’s literally as it comes out of the washing machine. It’s still warm. But it smells so damp. It's horrid. Stressing me, as I don’t want her to go to school stinking of damp washing."
One fellow group user suggested: "I would recommend using soda crystals to clean the washer. I've found when the clothes come out smelling damp I used soda crystals in an empty drum to clean the washer. And my kid's uniform and clothes come out freshly clean (ie put soda crystals in an empty drum and wash as normal".
Another recommended: "I use soda crystals to clean the washing machine once a month when clothes start to smell damp after washing."
A number of others also swore by soda crystals, which you can pick up from Sainsbury's for just 80p for a 1kg bag.
Thanking people for their words of wisdom, the mum wrote: "Washing it on a synthetic wash and tumble drying (again on synthetic). No fabric softener, just a drop of Zoflora.
"With each wash, it smells less and less. Thank you, everyone! Although I must say… these blazers are terrible. Why make them so hard to wash. They're sweaty stinky teens."
