Mrs Brown's Boys viewers want show cancelled for 'ruining' New Year's Day

Angry viewers accused BBC show Mrs Brown's Boys of "ruining" New Year's Day amidst calls for it to be cancelled.

The sitcom special first aired on January 1 but viewers weren't impressed with Brendan O'Carroll's lead character recovering from a New Year's Eve hangover.

While the show's live studio audience were left in hysterics at some of the jokes, people at home didn't find the show anywhere near as amusing - The Mirror reports.

The show's highlight was when grandad joked a nearby murder had seen a man beaten to death with a fish by "Jack the Kipper."

But The Mirror reported how viewers took to Twitter to complain, with one writing: "2022 was going so well but Mrs Brown's Boys has just come on!"

A second wrote: "@BBCOne kicking off their drama for 2022 with the thrilling The Tourist... shame they then put Mrs Brown's Boys on!"

Others went even further and called for the show to be cancelled, calling it "literally the worst show ever."

Another disappointed tweeter added: "I tuned in to what I thought was [Peaky Blinders] and it turns out sadly it was Mrs Brown and her boys. The worst TV ever - please BBC, stop this!"

And a third fumed: "Please put this show out of It's misery. It's had It's day."

But others felt the comedy was excellent and voiced their support via social media.

One wrote: "Love it. I think it’s hilarious."

A fan posted: "What a really good #mrsbrownsboys tonight as always," while another added: "I love #MrsBrownsBoys because its about family and the love the members of that family has for each other."

There were also a number of bemused tweeters, who didn't understand why people watched the show if they were just going to complain about it.

One observer said: "All the comments about #MrsBrownsBoys from people clearly sitting watching it with NOTHING better to do than sit complaining. It’s 2022 surely if it’s that bad change the channel."

And another posted: "I get the brickbats thrown at this show but it still pulls down decent ratings, has weak competition & fills an Irish comedy void left by Frank it’s the way I tell em Carson…."
