Brendan O’Carroll’s Agnes Brown proved to be the queen of Christmas TV again as 574,000 tuned in to see her madcap antics.

Mrs Brown’s Boys took top spot in Ireland’s festive ratings battle for the ninth year in a row, it emerged yesterday.

It’s A Wonderful Mammy was based on the much-loved 1946 James Stewart film and attracted 574,000 viewers.

The popular comedy achieved a 41% share of the audience and almost 80,000 more viewers than Brendan Grace – A Late Late Show Special.

RTE’s Six One News was the second highest-rated Irish programme, attracting 437,400 people on Christmas Eve.

The Nine O’Clock News was the fifth most watched programme with the later edition averaging 368,400 viewers last Friday.

On the same channel, 332,700 viewers watched the Fair City hour-long Christmas Day special.
