Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll sends heartwarming message to Liverpool fan Sean Cox ahead of Aviva Stadium charity match

Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll has released a heartwarming message to Liverpool fan Sean Cox ahead of a charity game in his honour.

Dunboyne man Sean was seriously injured last April after he was attacked by AS Roma supporters before Liverpool's Champions League semi-final tie outside Anfield.

He will appear in public for the first time since the incident to attend a special fundraiser in Dublin's Aviva Stadium on Friday night.

Earlier this year the FAI confirmed that an Irish Legends XI will take on a Liverpool Legends XI in a charity match to raise funds for the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust at the national stadium.

Reds icon Kenny Dalglish will manage the Liverpool side which will be captained by Ian Rush, while current Republic of Ireland manager will lead the Irish side captained by Robbie Keane.

Niall Quinn, John Aldridge, Robbie Fowler and many more legends of the sport will also be taking part in the event.

And last week it was revealed that Sean himself will attend the game, in his first public appearance since the devastating attack.

Comedian Brendan O'Carroll has now joined the list of famous faces wishing the Liverpool fan well in his ongoing recovery.

In a message released on Twitter, he said: "I won’t be at the Liverpool game against the Republic of Ireland because, unfortunately, I have to work.

"I’ve to put on a pair of **** and a pair of knickers — it’s not an easy life.

"But I can tell you this. See in the Aviva Stadium? There’ll be some people cheering for Ireland and there’ll be some people cheering for Liverpool but everybody will be cheering for Sean Cox.

"We love you, Sean. Get well soon.

"And congratulations to your family for being such a wonderful, wonderful support system."
