Mrs Brown’s Boys new mini-series air date confirmed by BBC

Exciting news for Mrs Brown’s Boys fans as the BBC has confirmed the air date for the previously announced mini-series – and it’s soon.

The long-running comedy show, which revolves around an Irish mother and her four children who live in the Dublin suburb of Finglas, will return for four new episodes from September 8 at 9.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

While there have been Christmas specials of Mrs Brown’s Boys over the past decade, next month’s run of shows will mark its first new season since 2013.

Earlier this year, show creator Brendan O’Carroll, who also stars as matriarch Agnes Brown, revealed that the show had been “thwarted twice” due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 67-year-old comic said: “This mini-series was actually planned for 2021. Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post-Covid shortage of studios, it’s fantastic to – at last – have the chance to make it happen.

“Fasten your seatbelts and hold on to your hats!”

Meanwhile, Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios, and Steven Canny, executive producer, shared their delight at bringing Mrs Brown back to the small screen.

Speaking in a press release, they said: “There’s no one quite like Mrs Brown.

“An absolute force of outrageous wit and slapstick that has audiences hooked and belly laughing. It’s great to be back.”

Jon Petrie, director of comedy, added: “BBC Comedy are pleased to announce that after a decade since the last full series of Mrs Brown’s Boys, millions of viewers around the UK will be thrilled to hear that Brendan is bringing Agnes and the family back together for a brand-new mini-series of his award-winning show.”
