Mrs Brown's Boys latest as star makes cryptic Brendan O'Carroll dig amid BBC show 'crisis'

Mrs Brown's Boys actor Damien McKiernan has reportedly 'liked' a tweet that slammed co-star Brendan O'Carroll for getting "too big for his boots."

The 54-year-old star, who recently left the show alongside his on-screen partner Gary Hollywood, called out the series bosses amid frustration over their pay gap.

The show has been plunged into crisis talks after the two stars, who play boyfriends Dino and Rory, discovered they were earning less than their co-stars.

Since the dispute erupted, Damien reportedly took to social media to 'like' a message that called out O'Carroll - who plays Agnes Brown.

The actor appeared to show his support for the message on  Twitter.

The original tweet read: "This it is shocking the way [Brendan O'Carroll] has treated [Gary Hollywood]. Think Brendan has got too big for his boots!"

A BBC representative for Mrs Brown's Boys declined to comment.

The cryptic message was the latest blow after it was reported that there had been a tense exchange between Gary Hollywood and the show bosses.

Having complained about their pay, Gary was warned that his role would be reduced and he would have less screen time over the Christmas specials.

In response, the star is believed to have quit.

Gary's on-screen boyfriend Damien was then reportedly informed that he had also been axed from the cast.

Several insiders have reported that tensions were high behind the scenes of the hit BBC comedy.

A source said: "The whole point of Mrs Brown's Boys is that they’re meant to be a family and all be paid equally regardless. It couldn’t be further from the truth!"

According to the  Daily Star, Gary's co-stars had tried to convince the actor to stay on board but his mind had been made up.

The pair had also been left "confused and hurt" after they learned that they had been receiving lower pay than their co-stars.

"It was even worse news for Damien," a source told the publication.

“He was simply told he is being written out. They are both heartbroken that things have turned out this way.” Work on two festive episodes has already started without the pair."

The television insider also claimed that feuds had been rife among the cast for some time.
