Mrs Brown’s Boys Dermot ‘Bugsy’ O’Neill vows to get back on stage after being hospitalised

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Dermot O’Neill has vowed he will return to the stage following his remarkable recovery from serious illness.

Just last week, family members of the TV star asked for prayers after Dermot, who is being treated for cancer, was rushed to hospital.

The actor, who plays Grandad in the hit show was put on a feeding tube by doctors after complaining of feeling unwell over the holidays, RSVP Live reports.

Having since recovered from his ordeal, Dermot told The Irish Sun he hopes to get back performing in the near future and getting back on the road with Mrs Brown D’Musical in the New Year with Brendan and the cast.

Dermot said: “Of course I am going back on stage. With any luck I will die on stage as long as it’s quick.

“Brendan has been joking he’s fine with that as he owns a coffin we used in Good Mourning Mrs Brown. In all seriousness, I’ll be living with cancer from this point on, so I’ll have to keep getting regular check-ups.”

Last week, Dermot's devoted wife Chickie revealed he was left “exhausted” after receiving treatment for cancer.

She said, “What we didn’t want to happen, happened. Dermo has been hospitalised to rehydrate him and be put on a feeding tube.

“Two more chemo sessions left and eight radiotherapy sessions. It’s been a tough road for him. Let’s all send him our love to get him over the finish line.”

“The radiation and chemo has him exhausted and unable to eat.

"We will have a very subdued time this year as the core of the family will not be there to relax and celebrate with us", she said.
