Mrs Brown's Boys creator Brendan O'Carroll has harsh words for critics of the BBC comedy

Brendan O’Carroll has hit out at Mrs Brown’s Boys critics telling them to "turn the f***ing channel" if they don't like the show.

The sitcom, which sees O’Carroll dress up as Irish housewife Agnes Brown, may be a ratings hit but critics are routinely left unimpressed and have even hit the show with accusations of racism, sexism and homophobia.

O’Carroll, who also created the programme, has now been quoted as telling The Sun: “Just change the f***ing channel.

“Honestly, I put on my dress and my t**s and go out and make people laugh and I come off, take off my dress, take off my t**s, get into the shower, come out and as soon as I come out of the theatre, I don’t even think about the show," he continued.

“The evidence of four NTA awards means people are not just liking it — they’re actually prepared to stand up and shout it.

“Radio Times named us ‘Sitcom of the Century’. We can only hope nothing good happens in the next eight decades to upset that.”

his comments come after the comedian revealed that the BBC comedy is sent to Buckingham Palace for the Queen and members of the Royal family to enjoy.

The 64-year-old comic said: “One of the few to get a preview copy is Buckingham Palace.

"I was speechless a couple of years ago when our producer first told me that they wanted an advance copy.”

A TV fan favourite – and also an acquired taste – the comedy returns on Christmas Day as Mammy meets an “angel” who grants her wish to see what life would be like has she never been born.

Her wish is overheard by angel Clyde, played by Kevin Kennedy, who is best known as Curly in Corrie.

The New Year’s Day show is a parody of the Netflix drama, Orange is The New Black.

Mrs Brown’s Boys airs on Christmas Day at 10.30pm on BBC One.
