Mrs Brown’s Boys Brendan O’Carroll says Donald Trump appeals to Americans because he is a 'bully' ahead of US election

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Brendan O’Carroll last night said US President Donald Trump appeals to Americans because he is a “bully.”

The top Dublin funnyman has been living in the crucial swing state of Florida for the last 21 years.

“I love America. It’s very much home for us but it is polarised,” he said on RTE’s Claire Byrne show.

Asked what the appeal of Donald Trump is to Americans, the staunch Democrat said, “as terrible as it is to say I think it’s because he is a bully.

“Americans like a bully because they are themselves not too confrontational.

“They like to keep things calm so if they see someone being a bully that they can follow they are happy to do that.”

The star, who is voting for Joe Biden, said “it’s going to be a tense day tomorrow.”

“There are Trump voters who won’t say they are Trump voters. It’s going to be tighter than we imagine but I still think it’s going to be close to a landslide for Biden.”

He said Covid-19 is a “huge issue” for voters.

O’Carroll said he and his wife Jenny Gibney are “political junkies” and will “sit up through the night for the results.”

“Jenny has her map out and she will be colouring in each county.

“We absolutely love it.”
